As a concerned parents of St. Benedict's catholic school, we are witnessing an increasing need for additional educational Assistant (EA) support and child and youth workers (CYW) at St. Benedict's Catholic School. The needs of our students have grown significantly and it is becoming increasingly clear that more resources are required to ensure the success of all children in our classrooms - particularly those with special needs.

In recent years, we've noticed a rise in the number of students requiring specialized assistance at St. Benedict's. This rise supported by research.  According to a 2015 study, approximately 1 in 9 children in Ontario under the aged of 18 has a special need or, one or more disabilities that limited them in their daily activities (Provincial Advocate for children and youth: Every Ninth Child in Ontario). These figures, as well as numerous requests from parents, underscore the urgency and importance of providing adequate support for St. Benedict's catholic school.  

Our school prides itself on fostering an inclusive environment where every child has an equal opportunity to succeed. However, without sufficient resources and support staff, we risk failing some of our most vulnerable students.

We urge TCDSB decision makers, ward 1 superintendent, and Ward 1 trustee to recognize the pressing need for more Educational Assistants and Child and Youth Workers at St. Benedict's Catholic School.
