Increase CNA pay

The Issue

For the past 20 years, I have dedicated my life as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), putting my heart and soul into caring for those in need. During this time, I have witnessed firsthand the stagnant wages that plague our profession. The pay for CNAs has barely increased since I started two decades ago, leaving many of us struggling to make ends meet in an environment where inflation continuously erodes our purchasing power.

Being a CNA is not just a job; it is a calling. We spend countless hours on our feet, providing essential care, support, and compassion to the vulnerable. Yet, despite the critical role we play in the healthcare system, our pay does not reflect the significance of our work, nor does it constitute a living wage. Many of us would love to improve our financial situation through travel work, but with dependents to care for, it simply isn't a viable option.

Healthcare workers deserve so much more than the current conditions afford us. We are not just clocking in each day for the joy of it – we are driven by the need to support our families, to pay our bills, and to ensure a better future for our loved ones. CNAs are grossly underpaid and horribly overworked, yet we show up every day because our communities rely on us.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the median hourly wage for CNAs is $14.82, barely above the poverty line in many areas. This must change to reflect the true value we bring to healthcare. We propose a minimum wage increase for CNAs to at least $25 per hour, which better reflects the challenging and essential nature of our work. This increase in pay would not only provide relief to overworked CNAs but also improve the quality of care provided to patients as staff experience less stress and burnout.

It is time for healthcare institutions and policymakers to recognize the vital contributions of CNAs and adjust compensation to reflect both our skill and dedication. By signing this petition, you are advocating for a living wage for CNAs that honors our commitment and ensures we can continue providing exemplary care to those who need it most. Please stand with us, and help us achieve fair pay for CNAs everywhere.
