Increase access to Med-QUEST dentists in Hawai'i

Increase access to Med-QUEST dentists in Hawai'i
The Issue
Hawaiʻi Families Deserve Access to Dental Care
Expand Med-QUEST Dental Participation Across Hawaiʻi
Petition to:
Hawaii Department of Human Services
Hawaii State Legislature
Hawaii Dental Association
Petition
We, the undersigned residents of Hawaiʻi, call on state leaders to take immediate action to improve access to dental care for Med-QUEST patients statewide.
Across Hawaiʻi, families are struggling to find dentists who accept Med-QUEST. Many parents wait months for appointments, travel long distances for care, or go without treatment entirely. Children miss preventative care, while adults are often left dealing with worsening pain, infection, and costly emergency room visits.
This issue is especially severe in rural and underserved communities, including Hawaiʻi Island.
Dental care is essential healthcare. Untreated dental problems can lead to:
serious infections,
chronic pain,
missed school and work,
long-term health complications,
and preventable medical emergencies.
We urge Hawaiʻi leaders to:
1. Increase Med-QUEST dental reimbursement rates
Allow more dental providers to realistically participate in the program.
2. Simplify provider paperwork and billing
Reduce administrative barriers that discourage participation.
3. Create incentives for dentists serving underserved communities
Support providers who care for rural and low-income families.
4. Expand community dental clinics and mobile dental services
Improve access for residents across all islands.
5. Prioritize preventative and family dental care
Ensure children and adults can receive regular cleanings, exams, and treatment before problems become emergencies.
Every family in Hawaiʻi deserves access to safe, timely, affordable dental care — regardless of income or insurance status.
We respectfully ask state leaders to take meaningful action to improve dental access for Med-QUEST patients across Hawaiʻi.
