Nazi salutes replacing Pledge of Allegiance in schools? Demand Action Keep Jewish Children Safe!
According to World Jewish Congress "During the last school year, 4 in 10 Jewish college students reported experiencing antisemitism during their time on campus. But that does not tell the whole despicable story. Jewish children of all ages — in elementary, middle, and high schools — are facing equally terrifying acts of Jew hatred.
With Jewish students preparing to return to school in an environment of heightened antisemitism, we must brace for an academic year that may again be deeply troubling.
In 2026, the crisis in our schools has already reached unacceptable heights.
In California, parents of Jewish children were forced to file a lawsuit after their children experienced severe antisemitic harassment, bullying, and physical attacks in public schools.
In Florida, a federal civil rights complaint was filed after a Jewish student faced years of relentless harassment, including classmates performing Nazi salutes during class presentations while teachers stood by.
In Boulder, Colorado, a federal civil rights complaint was filed against a middle school for years of antisemitic slurs, Nazi salutes, Holocaust mockery, death threats, and physical assaults targeting Jewish kids.
It is entirely unimaginable that our youngest children are being exposed to virulent Jew hatred in the classroom. It must end."
That is why, as the new school year begins, we are calling on Fair Lawn Public Schools to take full responsibility and accountability for keeping all of our children safe and for actively combating antisemitism through education.
On October 30, 2025, the Fair Lawn Board of Education voted 6–0–3 to recognize Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) every May. That important vote was the first step.
Now it is time for the next step: meaningful implementation.
We are asking our schools to follow through on that commitment by incorporating Jewish American heritage, history, culture, and contributions into our school curriculum, educational programs, and school community events.
Recognition matters—but education gives that recognition lasting meaning.
As the 2026–2027 school year begins, we look forward to seeing the Board's commitment translated into meaningful action in our classrooms and throughout our schools.
Education is one of our strongest tools for combating antisemitism, prejudice, and hate—and for building a safer, more respectful school community for every child.
Our Goal #2 remains. We have respectfully requested and awaiting a response from the Superintendent to incorporate appropriate activities to celebrate JAHM of May and to officially implement it in our curriculum, in accordance with 2020 Diversity & Inclusion Legislation 18A:35-4.36a and in compliance with NJ DOE: “It’s more than a month; it’s about integrating Jewish American Heritage Month (May) into K–12 Social Studies.”
