Today, on Tisha B’Av, we remember the tragedies that have shaped Jewish history—not only the destruction of the First and Second Temples, but also the centuries of persecution, expulsions, pogroms, the Holocaust, and the painful rise of antisemitism that continues today.

Tisha B’Av is not only about remembering the past. It is about accepting our responsibility to build a better future. That is why our Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) Petition remains so important.

Fair Lawn became the first school district in New Jersey to officially recognize Jewish American Heritage Month. Now we must ensure that this commitment is fully implemented throughout our schools by incorporating meaningful Jewish history, heritage, and contributions into the curriculum every May, consistent with New Jersey Department of Education guidance. Education is our strongest response to ignorance and hatred.

As George Santayana wisely said: “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” On this solemn day, I ask our community to honor the memory of those who came before us by helping educate the next generation. Thank you to everyone who has supported this effort by signing, sharing, and standing together.

Every voice matters, and together we can help ensure that “Never Again” is more than a promise—it becomes a lesson every student learns.
