Incorporate Black History Into Our School Curriculum

The Issue

My fellow students and I are tired of being made fun of for our heritage. Cruel slurs and taunts about our background are carelessly thrown around our classrooms as if they mean nothing. This hurts, but it doesn't only affect us. It tarnishes the memory of our ancestors who fought with unwavering courage and determination for our rights and our freedom.

Black history is not a joke. It is a celebration of the achievements of heroic men and women who were pioneers in their fields, fought against oppression, and dreamed of an equal society. This glaring lack of knowledge underscores the pressing need for comprehensive education on Black history.

By incorporating Black history month into our school curriculum, we will foster a deeper understanding of the significance of our heritage. Knowledge is the first step towards combating ignorance and prejudice. Recognizing and honoring our ancestors' struggles will help to build empathy, understanding, and respect among all students.

It's high time our school leadership take a stand to ensure that the struggles and accomplishments of Black people are taught accurately, respectfully, and comprehensively in our classrooms. We need Black history month recognized and celebrated in our school as a testament to the contributions that Black Americans have made to our society, and as a clear message against racial intolerance.

Please sign this petition, urge our school to incorporate Black History month into our curriculum and help us ensure a more inclusive, respectful, and educated environment for all.
