Incorporate anti-racism education starting in kindergarten

The Issue

Growing up in America during the 70s, 80s, and 90s, I witnessed a country where hope and progress were prevalent ideals. However, it's heartbreaking to observe what we are turning into now—a society increasingly divided by hate and misinformation. I listen to NPR and other independent news outlets, and the number one thing I constantly hear is hate. It's as if the wealthy are manufacturing this division to keep us distracted, benefiting while society suffers.

The alarming rise in hate-fueled incidents, bullying, and even school shootings has led me to a single solution: education. We need to start instilling values of acceptance, love, and understanding in our educational curriculum, starting from kindergarten. Only through education can we hope to build a future where our children will not be burdened by the prejudices and anger that have been ingrained in previous generations. Racism and hate have never brought about any benefits; instead, they divide societies and breed further violence and despair.

Imagine if we could instill in children from day one the real harm that racism and hate cause. We would be raising a generation that's more accepting, less prone to bullying, and much less likely to harbor the frustrations that lead to tragic events like school shootings. These changes could foster a future where cooperation prevails over division, where every individual feels respected and valued, and where hate is no longer a voice in the daily narrative.

Aside from changing minds and hearts, addressing these issues at a foundational level can help redirect the anger and frustration many feel due to economic hardships and social inequality. If this country truly prioritizes its people and modernizes its infrastructure, it would not only create jobs but also enhance well-being, thereby reducing the social tensions that erupt from economic frustrations.

This change is not only urgent but entirely feasible. With the right pressure on educational boards and policy-makers, we can implement a curriculum that educates children on the harms of racism and hate and, consequently, constructs a better future for all.

If life is meant to get better for generations to come, we need to act now. We need to ensure that our children will not just mimic the mistakes of the past but instead build on a foundation of understanding and progress. Let us be the change-makers for a brighter, unified future.

Please sign this petition to incorporate anti-racism and anti-hate education into the curriculum, starting from kindergarten. Together, we can foster a society less divided by fear and hate, and more united by empathy and love.
