Did you know that 11 states and Washington, D.C., do not allow independent/unaffiliated voters to participate in their primaries? However, a majority of the United States does. A recent poll by Gallup showed that “43% of Americans are political independents” and according to Open Primaries state-by-state data, most states have well over 20% of unaffiliated voters.

We must allow all voters the opportunity to participate in the voting system and cast their votes equally. Join me in urging these state leaders to guarantee that everyone’s voice and vote get counted.

*A primary is a statewide voting process in which voters cast secret ballots for their preferred candidates
*Unaffiliated Voters are voters that do not align themselves with a political party

Note: This petition targets each state leaders that are able to make changes to this practice. Some states let the parties decide, where most let the legislature decide.
