Include People with HIV in Clinical Trials & Research Worldwide
The Issue
My journey as a gay man deeply involved in the LGBTQIA+ community has led me to champion a cause close to my heart: ensuring equal access to life-saving medications and advancing clinical research for people with HIV.
At SGM Alliance, we advocate for sexual and gender minorities in clinical research, life sciences, and the evolution of healthcare. The #stopthecopypaste movement highlights the need for pharmaceutical companies to eliminate outdated exclusion criteria from the 1990s that unnecessarily prevent individuals on HIV medication from participating in clinical trials.
Globally, around 38 million people are living with HIV, and treatment disparity is a significant concern, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community (source: WHO). No one should be excluded from benefiting from medical advancements due to their health status, location, or sexual orientation.
Pharmaceutical companies, healthcare providers, and governments worldwide must include people with HIV in their clinical trials and research. Together, we can address this discrimination in our healthcare ecosystem and drive the necessary changes. Stand with SGM Alliance and me in supporting equality in healthcare and ensuring that HIV patients are included in clinical research. Please, sign this petition.
