Include Juneteenth in Corporate Holiday Calendar

The Issue

Recently, Juneteenth has become a U.S. Federal Holiday by law. This day is not just a date on the calendar for me, but a recognition of a significant moment in our nation's history; the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. However, this important milestone in our history is yet to be acknowledged in our corporate holiday schedule.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the end of slavery in the United States and it is an occasion for African Americans and the nation as a whole to reflect on the enduring legacy of slavery and to commit to addressing the systemic racism that persists today. As per a decree by President Joe Biden, on June 17, 2021, Juneteenth has been declared a United States federal holiday, thus establishing this landmark in the national consciousness (source: Federal Register).

Nevertheless, this essential acknowledgment has not followed suit in many corporate environments. Recognizing Juneteenth as a Corporate Holiday would mark a significant step towards promoting diversity, inclusivity, and racial equality in the workplace. Not doing so would be a missed opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to these values.

I urge you to take this crucial step in promoting togetherness and unity, by acknowledging Juneteenth in the corporate holiday schedule. It's not just about an extra holiday, it's about acknowledging our history, recognizing our past, and moving forward together. Please sign my petition to include Juneteenth in our corporate holiday.
