The Issue

My sister and I exchanged the four walls of our traditional classroom for a different learning environment this year – home schooling. This new pathway unveiled to us its own benefits, creating a more personalized and flexible approach towards education. However, not all aspects of our old routine should be left behind, especially our active participation in sports and extra-curricular activities, an integral part of any student's life.

We have come to discover that many school districts surrounding Cinnaminson extend this opportunity to home schooled children including, but not limited to, Delran, Maple Shade, Willingboro, and Rancocas Valley. It is disheartening to note that Cinnaminson School District, through Policy 2431, creates a barrier to this essential part of youth development in our community.

According to the New Jersey Department of Education, the decision to grant home schooled children access to sports and other activities lies solely in the hands of individual school districts. It is high time we reconsider and amend Policy 2431, to embrace an inclusive educational sphere that is clearly already a part of many other New Jersey districts.

Let's rally together in advocating this much-needed amendment to Policy 2431, making the Cinnaminson School District a more inclusive and synergistic community, offering home schooled children the chance to participate in activities that foster personal, social and physical development with their friends and community. Kindly lend your support to this cause by signing the petition.
