Hi Community!
In the time since we last spoke so many things have taken place! I want to first start by thanking everyone who has taken the time to sign and share this petition. I read all of the comments and use it as fuel to keep going.
Here are the latest updates:
- I was able to make it to the final stage of meeting with Health Quality Ontario to re-open the decision made around vitamin D and they ultimately opted to shelve the request to December of this year. What I learned from this process is that I am not the first person to make this request so I take that to mean that we are on the right path.
- I have started an organization called Hu(e)man Health! This organization will continue to do the important work required to achieve health equity by conducting research with community partners, creating an equitable health database to inform health policy and share all the knowledge I learn along the way under the 'knowledge share' page.
- Our newsletter 'a Healthier Hue' will be released on July 15th. In it you will be able to stay updated on all of the things that are taking place. You can sign up on the Hueman Health website (hope to see you there).
Up next?
- Partnering with community health partners to help with research studies on the impacts of chronic low vitamin D among Black Canadians
- Developing initiatives that provide vitamin D supplements and testing to those in the community through donations and grant funding
- Creating a platform for people to share their stories
- Challenge the charter in the courts around the discriminatory practice of making Black Canadians pay for something that is required for a healthy living.
I'm always looking for people to lend a hand on this journey as we seek to reclaim what is our and pave a brighter path for generations to come.
Remember that you are only as healthy as your neighbours neighbour and it will take our village to get this done.
