Hi Everyone!

Hope the summer has been treating you well with lots of sunshine and good times.

As you know I submitted an application to Ontario Health a few months back asking them reinstate vitamin D testing to OHIP or change the at risk group to allow those with darker skin tones to qualify for free testing.

I had a meeting with them to today! The panel consisted of Medical Doctors and Health Economists. I went over my application, research and highlighted stories that some of you shared on various platforms about your experiences both positive and negative with vitamin D.

I also drove home the point that people with higher melanin are being charged a 'skin tax' as those who have little melanin can stand in the sun for an hour being assured that they are getting a good amount of vitamin D for free.

I am happy to say that we are moving on to the next step: Prioritization! We will find out in the December if our cause will make it to the next step where the application will be put in front of an executive panel to decide if testing fees will be restored to OHIP or the at risk group changed.

I encourage you to keep forwarding, signing and sharing your stories. They matter for you and our future generations.

In Health,

LaToya
