Include ADHD under PwBD and provide legal support for treatment
Include ADHD under PwBD and provide legal support for treatment
The Issue
Living with ADHD is a lifelong challenge that often goes unrecognized in many legal systems, including ours. I have ADHD, and it profoundly affects my day-to-day life, presenting barriers that many others without the condition may not understand. This is not just a momentary struggle; it is a persistent obstacle that impacts various aspects of my life, from my ability to focus and complete tasks, to affecting my relationships and career opportunities.
Despite the widespread nature of ADHD, we lack a robust legal framework to support individuals like me, who face daily hurdles due to this condition. ADHD should be classified under Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) to ensure necessary legal recognition and to allow for structured support. This inclusion will enable those with ADHD to acquire the rights and supports essential for leading a productive life.
A key component missing in our legal structure is support for ADHD medication and treatment. Many people with ADHD require medication as a part of their treatment plan, yet access to these essential services remains inadequate. Recognizing ADHD under PwBD would ensure that individuals receive medications, therapies, and other support systems that are typically offered for other recognized disabilities.
Globally, there has been a shift towards recognizing neurodevelopmental disorders as genuine disabilities that affect daily living. India needs to join this movement by creating regulations and legal structures to support ADHD under the PwBD category. This initiative not only benefits those directly affected but also enriches the broader community by acknowledging and addressing the specific needs of neurodiverse individuals.
Let's drive change by demanding that our policymakers and legal authorities include ADHD under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category and establish comprehensive legal guidelines for its treatment. Your signature can make a difference in fighting for the rights and support that individuals with ADHD deserve. Sign this petition to help create a more inclusive and supportive legal framework for everyone living with ADHD.
