Include a tribute to Dr. Travis Doom in Marvel canon
The Issue
Dr. Travis Doom has been a cornerstone of the academic community, inspiring thousands of students over his 28-year tenure as a professor at Wright State University, followed by the University of Michigan. His dedication not only fostered a love for computer science but also instilled a passion for the Marvel universe in countless individuals. It is fitting to honor his contribution to both academia and popular culture by requesting that Disney include a nod to Dr. Doom in the Marvel canon.
Travis loved nothing more than teaching. It was his passion and his joy. On his emeritus page from Wright State University, he included the following line even before he knew he was sick:
"Dr. Doom would not mind being remembered as someone who spent "too much" effort on his teaching."
Due to his general competence and desire to improve the world, he had ended up in administrative roles (Associate Dean, most recently) at Wright State. Despite the fact that Associate Dean required NO teaching load because it was a full time job, he refused to give up his Digital Design class because he loved it too much. When he got home from work, I'd ask, "How was your day?" On his favorite days, teaching days, he'd say, "Today I got to teach. Today was a good day." – Jen White Doom
We believe a small gesture from Marvel would be a significant acknowledgment of his life's work and the community he built. His students, colleagues, and Marvel fans around the world would be thrilled to see an Easter egg or simple tribute as a testament to a professor who turned a classroom into an imaginative universe of possibilities.
In consideration of Dr. Doom's lifelong dedication and unique contribution to both education and Marvel fandom, we kindly ask Disney and Marvel Studios to recognize him in future cinematic releases or related materials. Such recognition would not only honor Dr. Doom but also serve as an inspiration to all educators who strive to ignite passion and creativity in their students.
