Incline Needs TART Connect Morning Hours
The Issue
Before reading the petition, please note the following:
First of all, when you click "Sign Petition", you'll be taken to a page for your signature and location. Many users are seeing a pre-filled location that is different from where they reside. If this is the case for you, please make sure to change it to the city in which you live.
Secondly, you'll see a request for a donation where the funds received go directly to change.org, not this measure. We are not requesting donations to support this petition.
The entire North Lake Tahoe area benefited tremendously when TART Connect commenced service on June 24th, 2021. It’s widely known that the area had a serious shortage of rideshare options and TART Connect’s new presence instantly solved this problem.
TART Connect has kept drunk drivers off the road. TART Connect has helped elderly get to doctor’s appointments. TART Connect has helped locals and J1’s alike get to and from work, the grocery store, the bank, the restaurant, the post office, etc. TART Connect has gotten local kids to and from school, sporting events, and their friends’ houses. TART Connect has been a short-term solution for those who’ve experienced a car accident or mechanical issue. In short, virtually everyone in the communities that TART Connect operates, whether you own a vehicle or not, has benefited from the service.
On June 27th, 2024, TART Connect’s hours of operation in Incline Village shifted from 8am-12am to 3pm-11pm. This adjustment reduced service availability in Incline Village during daytime hours. While this change aligned with the guidance to encourage greater utilization of the TART bus system during the day, it has highlighted a gap in transportation options for Incline residents and visitors who rely on TART Connect’s unique on-demand service.
TART Connect and the TART bus system serve complementary but distinct purposes, with TART Connect offering flexible, door-to-door transportation while the TART bus provides fixed-route service. The reduced daytime hours for TART Connect have created challenges for those who depend on its convenience and accessibility, particularly in a community like Incline Village that benefits from tailored transportation solutions.
Another unfortunate byproduct of losing TART Connect’s morning hours is the substantial increase in the number of kids using e-bikes for their transportation needs. It’s troubling that these motorized bikes are allowed on public streets with no drivers license requirements. Kids are speeding and weaving through the community often with more riders than are legally allowed and rarely wearing helmets. If one hasn’t happened already, it’s just a matter of time before a tragic accident happens.
So, what can you do? This online petition has been created so people can express their support for the additional funding needed for TART Connect’s morning hours. It’s my hope that EVERYONE in the community will support this measure and that we gather enough signatures so that the benefactor who pulled the funding will reconsider that decision. If that is unsuccessful, it’s my hope that a new benefactor sees the benefits to the community and offers the additional funding needed to support TART Connect’s morning hours.
We obviously need the support/signature of everyone who has used the service. However, we also need the support of everyone who has not used the service. If you fall into that category, I can assure you know someone who has been negatively affected by these reduced hours. Your favorite waiter/waitress, bank teller, checker at Raley’s/Grocery Outlet, landscaper, hair stylist, ski instructor, casino employee, bartender, church friend, likely have all used the service. If it impacts them, it impacts you. If you decide to support this measure with your signature, please forward to your friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc.
Finally, it’s important to note that is site/petition has been created by an Incline Village resident who just wants to see our community thrive and have services provided to those who need them the most. Thank you in advance for your support!
