Open Letter to the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas Board of Directors
April 6, 2022
In honor of Rosemary Heffley and all the founders of CCGD
Dear Board of Directors,
Look no further than the medallions of the Chorus graduates to remind yourselves of the Chorus Mission: Artistry, Community Diversity!
These words taken from the founder’s vision and mission statement have guided the organization and all its stakeholders for the last 25 years. From Michael Hawn, Founder and first Chair of the Board, until now, serving the mission has been the foundation of all our efforts.
I served at the very beginning of the Chorus and continued serving in various capacities for its first 10 years. During that tenure I drilled into every new hire, every new chorister and chorister family, every new volunteer ARTISTRY, COMMUNITY, DIVERSITY. Serve that mission or move on!
From that strong foundation we built an organization that supported the children and staff in this artistic endeavor, included a rightful place for parent volunteers, broadened the base to attract community stakeholders and attracted financial contributions which have funded the tremendous growth over the years.
Even though I am no longer directly involved in the Chorus, I still know all the Principal Conductors. I have known two of the Conductors since 1994 – before CCGD was even created. I know several of the accompanists. Something has gone seriously wrong for this superb group of very talented musicians and music educators to leave the Chorus all at once.
I therefore call on the Board to:
1 Immediately convene a special meeting of the Board of Directors
2 Overturn all recent decisions which have contributed to this mass exodus
3 Re-engage with Ms. Ahrens and continue negotiating in good faith until a fair and
4 Re-engage with all Artistic Staff members who have resigned and ask them to return under Ms. Kimberley Ahrens direction.
I implore you to move with all due diligence to repair the damage which has been done and toinsure the continued operations of CCGD.
Most Sincerely,
Joseph P. Dominguez
