In Support of Inter Arts Matrix at Globe Studios
The Issue
June 4, 2026
To the Board of Directors of Globe Studios,
We, the undersigned, as members of the Region of Waterloo arts community, wish to express our surprise and dismay upon learning that the Board of Directors for Globe Studios has served Inter Arts Matrix with a Notice of Termination of Tenancy for Studio #38, effective January 1, 2027.
We affirm that Inter Arts Matrix offers significant and life-changing benefits to the community of artists in and around Globe Studios. To force the organization to find a new home risks much of what they have built. It also risks the goodwill many of us have towards Globe, which has been shaped in part by the interdisciplinary, community arts work of Inter Arts Matrix within the building. Further, the organization’s grant-funded and good-faith renovations to the old space have added significant value to the building. And as a result of these investments and the vision and effort of Inter Arts Matrix, Studio #38 has been providing many of us with an exhibition and collaborative work space that is utterly unique in the Region. Inter Arts Matrix also consistently brings people from far beyond the Region to Kitchener—and specifically to Globe—to engage with local artists in a space accessible by public transit. We maintain that Globe Studios is a more inclusive, more open, and more interesting artist-run, not-for-profit organization with Inter Arts Matrix present as a tenant in the building.
We ask the Board of Directors to re-consider this disruptive action. We also ask the Board to communicate clearly with Inter Arts Matrix regarding what has motivated this decision and to enter into mediated conversations together with a sincere effort at finding a workable solution for both the Board and for Inter Arts Matrix.
We have valued and supported Globe Studios because we value and support Inter Arts Matrix.
Sincerely,
Your fellow artists and community members
