Living in Queens, we've witnessed firsthand the rapid gentrification sweeping through our beloved neighborhoods, particularly in Sunnyside. It's disheartening to see the community we have grown to love change so drastically. Our rent, like so many others has risen to an unsustainable level, forcing numerous families and longtime residents out of their homes including small business owners to shut down.

Our community needs more affordable and rent-friendly housing solutions. We propose that local authorities, along with housing developers, invest in building and maintaining properties that prioritize affordability over profit. Rent control measures must be strengthened and expanded to ensure rents remain stable and do not disproportionately increase without justification.
