In memory of Peter Cullen: relist the Transformers Cybertron games and Devastation
The Issue
On August 26, 2026, Peter Cullen passed away at 85.
For more than forty years he was the voice of Optimus Prime: in the 1984 animation, in the films, and in the Activision games, including four that many of us consider the best Transformers stories ever told on a screen:
- Transformers: War for Cybertron (2010)
- Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (2012)
- Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark (2014)
- Transformers: Devastation (2015)
Devastation, made by PlatinumGames in the look of the original 1984 animation, where Cullen's Prime began, was pulled from sale barely two years after it came out.
None of them can be bought today.
When Activision's Transformers license expired at the end of 2017, all four were removed from Steam, Xbox and PlayStation.
A new fan who hears Cullen's Prime in the films and wants to play these games has two choices:
- Hunt down a second-hand disc.
- Pay a reseller anywhere from about $250 to more than $800 for an old activation key.
Many end up pirating them instead.
That is no way to treat a performance that defined a character for two generations.
We are asking Hasbro and Xbox to fix this together, as a tribute:
1.Relist all four games on Steam, the Xbox Store and the PlayStation Store, at a normal price.
2.Add them to Game Pass.
3.Dedicate the re-release to Peter Cullen, a dedication screen or a line on the store page and consider directing a share of first-year proceeds to a cause chosen with his family.
4.Don't leave multiplayer dead, restore the official servers, or officially bless the community-run servers fans already maintain.
This is not a moonshot.
In 2023, Hasbro said publicly that it wants these games back and called them an easy Game Pass addition. Microsoft now owns Activision, High Moon Studios (which made three of the four), and the code.
Store pages for the games have already quietly reappeared twice, in 2024, and again in September 2025, before being pulled down each time.
Both companies clearly know what fans want.
They just haven't crossed the finish line.
We're asking them to cross it now.
Peter Cullen built Optimus Prime on his brother Larry, a Marine who came home from Vietnam, and on an idea he repeated for the rest of his life: be strong enough to be gentle.
His family has asked fans to honor him by serving our communities.
Making his work available again, legally, affordably, to everyone, is the most fitting service the companies that own it can offer.
