This coming weekend is Cal Poly’s Family Weekend. How many Cal Poly families will drive on 101 to come to campus this coming weekend? Will Cal Poly act to compel the authorities to remove the El Campo death trap to protect these Cal Poly families or will the attitude that it is someone else’s problem prevail?
Seven weeks before Cal Poly freshman Jordan was killed, on August 15, 2018 the exact type of accident at El Campo occurred - an unsafe left turn from El Campo into oncoming freeway traffic.
Nothing was done to change the danger - and protect Jordan....for seven weeks. All authorities over the El Campo death trap knew the danger was there.
Susie Smith - the August 15 victim- her car rolled leaving her with a fractured spine and other injuries. Her husband, Jadon Smith, states the authorities have studied this in the past, however, failed to act due in part to the lobbying efforts of citizens in Falcon Crest subdivision and others that would find it inconvenient to close El Campo’s northbound access to Highway 101.
Inconvenient. Jordan’s life was traded for convenience?
Please call and write Cal Poly’s Vice President of Student Affairs, Keith Humphrey at 805-602-6204 (humphrey@calpoly.edu) and ask what Cal Poly has done this week to warn and protect our pending Family Weekend attendees.
