Dear Mr. Gubbins-
I am Caren Ray, City Council Member in Arroyo Grande (and former County Supervisor of District 4). I am writing to you today as an individual, not with the consensus of my Council. As our District 5 Director, I thought it would be important for you to hear directly from your constituents, including the elected ones.
Below is a letter from a local family who has experienced unbearable grief losing their child due to the inherent dangers of the El Campo crossing at Highway 101, just south of Arroyo Grande. Please read the email below, and the attachment.
The outpouring of support for the family, along with outrage that this intersection has gone unchanged for decades, has been overwhelming. As of this morning, almost 9000 people have signed the online petition demanding change. Here is the link:

People in the community are begging the local elected leaders to do something about this intersection. It is very difficult to tell them that they need to contact Cal Trans, because they don't have an elected representative there.
Please contact Mr. Grant at jameskgrant2@gmail.com to discuss Cal Trans' plans for the El Campo Interchange. I would appreciate being cc'd on the response so I can inform my constituents.
Thank you,
Caren Ray
Arroyo Grande City Council
