The Issue

Living with a chronic illness is a rollercoaster that no one signs up for. One day, I'm full of energy, dancing to 90’s country hits, and the next, I'm struggling just to stand up. It's not right, and it's not fair that so many of us women have to fight this battle without the support we truly need. Especially when managing day-to-day tasks, like sending my kids off to school with packed lunches, feels nearly impossible when the pain takes over.

Did you know that women are 4X more likely to suffer from autoimmune conditions than men? So, you’d think that scientific research would pump up their studies to bolster that gender gap…Right?! But after experiencing what I did in my own health journey, I decided to look a little deeper. According to a recent study by the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR), upwards of 84% of women have reported feeling unheard or down right dismissed about their health concerns! And the fact that it took me TWO decades to receive a formal diagnosis was confirmation enough. The United States should be a leader in healthcare innovation, yet many of us women dealing with chronic illnesses like autoimmune diseases or multiple sclerosis, find ourselves lacking the proper resources. It's not just about the physical pain; it's the emotional and mental strain of navigating a healthcare system that often feels indifferent to the concerns of women vs men. I know I'm not alone in wishing for better support and more accessible care.

We need increased funding for chronic illness research and access to more effective treatments. Healthcare programs should be designed to provide real support, offering comprehensive care plans that cater to the fluctuating nature of these conditions. We shouldn't have to choose between resting and getting the help we need to live fulfilling lives.

By signing this petition, you are calling for systemic changes in the way healthcare supports females with chronic illnesses. It's time for us to push for improved healthcare education surrounding women’s bodies, and more resources that match the severity and unpredictability of these conditions. Let's push for our scientists to prioritize meaningful changes that will help countless women  like me lead better lives. Sign this petition to urge U.S. lawmakers and health officials to invest in better chronic illness care and support.
