Improve Verizon Wireless Coverage in Hingham, MA: Verizon, Can You Hear Us Now?

The Issue

Verizon’s lack of cell network coverage in our town creates safety, economic development, and communication problems.

Verizon customers can’t use their cell phones in their homes to call *emergency services, make business calls, or make personal calls because there is inadequate network strength and availability in Hingham. They're also unable to receive cell calls. This has been an ongoing issue for years, and this is our request for Verizon to take action to improve mobile network coverage in Hingham.

When driving, walking, biking, hiking, eating out downtown in Hingham, Verizon customers don’t have adequate Verizon coverage to contact emergency services or family members.

Our downtown area is a Verizon dead zone. When in downtown Hingham, visitors can’t communicate by cell phone, parents can’t reach their children, and businesses are at an economic disadvantage because they can’t use mobile payment processing methods during town events such as Springham, Hingham Arts Walk, Christmas in the Square, Hingham Farmers’ Market, and July 4th celebrations.

Most of our school areas are dead zones. Children at Hingham schools can’t call their parents for rides after games, if they’re hurt at practice, or if there is an emergency at school.

It's come to our attention that AT&T Wireless has worked with the Town of Hingham to improve their wireless network coverage in our town as shown. Currently, AT&T’s network coverage and willingness to work with our town have made switching to AT&T Wireless an attractive option for Hingham Verizon Wireless customers.

Your company web site states that to resolve Verizon dead zones, customers should call Verizon Wireless to create a service ticket every time we can't make a call, drop a call, etc. However, when customers don’t have coverage, they can’t contact you. And when they can call to report a problem with our town's Verizon coverage, they're asked if they'd like to buy a higher mobile service plan or asked to troubleshoot their phone. This isn't an individual mobile plan or device issue. It's an urgent Verizon mobile coverage issue for our entire town.

Please consider this our town's service ticket.

*Note: "emergency services" are not limited to "911 calls" and may be considered calls to the gas company, electric company, water company, or to a doctor's office.
