My name is Mabel Olivera and I am one of many Floridians who have dedicated over 35 years of their lives to the workforce. In July, like many of my colleagues, I will be without a job. The current unemployment compensation in our state is insufficient for us to survive on. Especially with Insurance and everything else being so expensive in our state.

Florida's unemployment benefits rank among the lowest in the nation, with a maximum weekly benefit of only $275 (source: U.S. Department of Labor). This amount is far from enough for those who have spent decades contributing to our economy and now find themselves unemployed through no fault of their own.

We are not asking for handouts; we are asking for fair compensation that reflects our years of hard work and contribution to Florida's prosperity. We need an increase in unemployment benefits that takes into account the length of service and provides adequate support during times of job loss.
