Improve traffic safety on Studley Terrace

Improve traffic safety on Studley Terrace

The Issue

Studley Terrace is a road which separates Nuns Moor Park and Arthurs Hill and is crossed daily by children, adults, dogs and cats to access the wonderful amenities of Nuns Moor Park.

At the moment, there are no traffic calming measures on Studley Terrace.  This is in contrast to the roads leading to Studley Terrace - Walter Terrace and Nuns Moor Road - which have a number of crossing islands and speed bumps.  This means that cars often speed up when they get to the free stretch of road which is Studley Terrace, often travelling well over the speed limit.   There have been accidents in the past and we need to stop accidents in future.

This fast and frequent traffic, combined with the relatively poor visibility on Studley Terrace due to the kink in the road by the entrance to the Campus for Aging and Vitality, feels like an accident waiting to happen for people crossing this road between a residential area and a well-loved park.

We believe that traffic calming measures and improved safety for pedestrians should be introduced on Studley Terrace as a matter of urgency.   This should include measures to reduce speeds (such as speed bumps) as well as improvements in pedestrian safety, for instance in the form of a zebra crossing and a central island.

Please sign the petition to ask Newcastle City Council to invest in the brilliant community which is Arthurs Hill and make the amazing resource that is Nuns Moor Park safer and more accessible for all!
