Hi everyone!

We have made some progress! If you go by Oak Park Avenue and Adams Street, new crosswalk signs and posts that discourage speeding in the parking lanes have been installed.

In May, we submitted a petition for a traffic calming study - but the Village responded that Oak Park Avenue is not subject to those petitions so any improvement decisions are with the Village. In July, a group of us met the Village Public Works and to their credit, they added the signs and posts.

Next up is a more permanent solution for the intersection. Something like the crossings at Oak Park & Van Buren or Madison & Grove that bumps out the curbs, increases visibility for pedestrian and bicycles, and maybe even a pedestrian island in the middle seems to make the most sense. So this means we will have to get our project up the list and funded! It is helpful that the intersection is named in the Vision Zero Plan and the Bike Plan - but not enough.

We are in the process of figuring out more information about how to get the intersection prioritized.

We will likely need to contact Trustees during the upcoming budget season and possibly meet with Village staff again. If you are interested in helping in this next phase, please reach out - cwopna@gmail.com.
