As concerned parents, community members, and supporters of the Lafayette High School baseball team, we urge the school district to take immediate action to replace our baseball field with new grass. Our team's recent success, finishing second in the state championship, highlights their dedication and talent. However, the condition of our baseball field has significantly deteriorated, posing serious safety risks and negatively impacting our players' performance and community engagement.

Why This Matters:

Safety Risks: The current field has numerous holes in the outfield, uneven surfaces, pervasive weeds, and bee hives. The current grass field and playing surfaces are 30 years old and beyond repair.  These hazards significantly increase the risk of injuries to our players and visiting teams.

Maintenance Challenges: Our coaching staff spends countless hours maintaining the field just to make it playable. Despite their best efforts, the field's condition remains subpar due to the extensive work required. The district grounds crew, with their current staffing levels, cannot properly maintain or install a new playing surface.

Limited Home Games: Last year, we had only 8 home games out of a total of 38 because other schools were reluctant to play on our surface. This affects our team's performance and reduces community engagement and school spirit.

Event Cancellations: Our Senior Night game was canceled because the district grounds crew could not prepare the field in time after a small rain. This was a disappointment for many families and players who were looking forward to the event.

Benefits of a New Field:

Enhanced Safety: A properly maintained grass field will significantly reduce the risk of injuries caused by uneven surfaces and other hazards.

Improved Performance: A quality playing surface will allow our players to perform at their best, enhancing their skills and game experience.

Increased Home Games: With a better field, we can host more home games, fostering greater community support and school spirit.

Boosted Morale: An upgraded field will serve as a testament to the school's commitment to its athletic programs, boosting morale among players, coaches, and supporters.
Long-Term Savings: Investing in a new field now will reduce the long-term maintenance costs and efforts required to keep the field playable.

Our Booster Club, along with local businesses, is already in the process of raising funds to help pay for a new grass field. We have received bids from contractors to complete the work and would be happy to share the financial requirements with the school district. However, we need the district's support and financial contribution to make this project a reality.
