Hello & A Very Happy Holidays to All!
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for the support on the petition. We do need to continue to press forward with collecting signatures, submitting complaints to the City of Surprise, and sending off emails to government officials.
I realize ADOT may have "gifted" us the restriping of the WB lanes early, but this problematic area is far from being completely solved. The saying goes that the "squeaky wheel gets the grease," which is precisely the attitude we need to take right now. Letting off the gas, so to speak, will allow the situation to cool off versus being treated like the public safety issue it truly is out there right now.
I am working to continue to keep information circulating via social media platforms. I am also going to be starting a podcast-format news updates starting weekly on January 16th. I plan to upload to as many podcasting platforms as possible and want to welcome and encourage those in the community who would like to share their stories, concerns, research, etc. regarding the traffic and safety issues in our community to join me in making our voices heard.
I have also been working to create a video to recap the conversations, questions, and presentations that happened during the December 20 D1 Meeting with Surprise Councilman Nick Haney. I did try to help the City of Surprise and the community by attempting to collect questions ahead of time, tried to assist with the strategy for the presentations and whatnot, as well as also encouraged a livestream option to be available. Unfortunately, the livestream I was told was not feasible to have up - however MAG and ADOT will be presenting at a future City Council session soon. My other advise was listened to in the moment, but I do not believe came to fruition when the meeting occurred.
The good news about the meeting is that there was a media presence there. We had Jason Stone from the Surprise Independent there, and Ashley Paredez from ABC15 Arizona present as well. You can read Jason's article on the traffic situation here: Traffic woes concern residents in north Surprise, and Ashley's article on ABC15 here: Surprise residents demand more solutions to fix Loop 303/US 60 traffic.
We're all still frustrated and the restriping is realistically only a band-aid type fix. It does not solve anything. We need to band together as a community and understand that we are all on the same side here of wanting these safety concerns and issues rectified.
