Improve Safety Measures at the Highway 1 and Highway 5 Intersection

The Issue

Councils of the Municipality of North Cypress-Langford and the Town of Carberry are looking for your help. We are calling on the Province of Manitoba to make immediate and long-term improvements to the major intersection in our community.

The intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 5 in the Municipality of North Cypress-Langford, near the Town of Carberry, has been a safety concern for many years. This intersection sees high volumes of traffic, many large trucks, agricultural equipment, buses, light passenger vehicles, and countless other forms of transportation. The narrow median causes drivers of large vehicles to require both westbound and eastbound traffic to be clear to cross, as they do not fit in the median. This can cause long delays, rushed crossings, and accidents.

Over the years, there have been many serious collisions, including serious injuries or fatalities. Councils of the Town of Carberry and Municipality of North Cypress-Langford are calling on the Province of Manitoba to implement immediate interim safety measures, with a study and subsequent long-term plan to improve this extremely dangerous intersection. Failure to do so could result in more tragedy.
