Improve road safety infrastructure around Oristown N.S.

The Issue

The Oristown National School Parents Council has initiated a 'Safe Roads Campaign' to advocate for the installation of critical road safety infrastructure around our beloved school. Nestled amidst three extremely busy roads, Oristown N.S. is facing perilous conditions with traffic intensifying each year. As a community, we are growing increasingly concerned for the safety of our children as they journey to and from school.

Our children deserve to feel safe walking to school and parents should not have to worry about the dangers posed by uncontrolled traffic. At present, it is no longer viable for children to walk to school or for parents to comfortably accompany them due to the sheer volume of vehicles.

We are appealing to the local council to prioritize the installation of essential road safety measures such as pedestrian crossings, speed bumps, and appropriate school zone signage. These solutions are proven to significantly reduce the risk of accidents and enhance the safety of pedestrians, particularly our young learners.

According to the Road Safety Authority, pedestrian fatalities account for 21% of all road deaths in Ireland, with children being some of the most vulnerable on our roads. Implementing these vital infrastructure solutions can drastically reduce this statistic and provide peace of mind to our school community.

The time to act is now. By signing this petition, you are joining us in urging the local council to make Oristown N.S a safer place for our children. Your support can pave the way for a brighter, safer future for our community's youngest members.

Sign this petition today and help us make a lasting change for the safety of our children.
