Improve Road and Sidewalk Accessibility in Northern California, Central Valley/Stockton.

The Issue

Our children are suffering. In our community in Stockton, CA, the lack of accessible roads and sidewalks is not just an inconvenience - it's a health crisis. The absence of safe spaces for walking or cycling has contributed to increased obesity rates and anxiety among our children who have limited options for physical activity.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity affects about 13.7 million children and adolescents in the United States. In California alone, approximately 15% of children aged 10-17 are obese (National Survey of Children’s Health). Anxiety disorders also affect one in eight children (National Institute of Mental Health). These statistics are alarming, but what's more distressing is that our community infrastructure could be exacerbating these issues.

Our roads need to be more than just conduits for cars; they should also provide safe pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. We need sidewalks that allow our kids to walk safely to school or play outside without fear of traffic accidents.

The city needs to prioritize accessibility as part of its urban planning strategy. By doing so, we can promote healthier lifestyles among our residents while also enhancing their quality of life.

Let's stand together as a community and demand better infrastructure from our local government officials. It's time we invest not only in concrete but also in the health and well-being of our future generations - sign this petition now!
