The Issue
I am a mother of three, residing in Carson City, Nevada, and I'm reaching out with a pressing concern shared by many parents in our community. My children, ranging from a pre-teen to a teenager, often find themselves with limited options for leisure activities, especially those that don't revolve around alcohol, gambling, or expensive sports registration fees. The few available activities seem to cater mainly to children aged five or under, leaving older kids without engaging alternatives.
Carson City deserves recreational avenues that cater to all age groups, especially teenagers who are often left with little to do. The youth in our community need spaces to explore, learn, and stay active without resorting to costly commitments or traveling to nearby Reno. Many families, like mine, are seeking affordable and accessible options—be it community centers, art workshops, dance classes, or parks with facilities designed for teenagers.
The lack of such options can lead to disengagement and frustration among our youth, which can have significant repercussions on their development and overall well-being. Other towns have successfully integrated inclusive recreational facilities; Carson City can too! By investing in multi-purpose community spaces, we provide our young residents with the means to socialize, explore creativity, and remain physically active.
We urge the Carson City Council and local community planners to prioritize the development of diverse recreational facilities that cater to families and teenagers. This not only enriches the quality of life for our youth but also fosters a stronger, more vibrant community.
Please sign this petition to advocate for the future of our youth and inspire change in Carson City. Help us create a loving and lively environment for families and teens alike.
