Improve pedestrian safety at Warm Springs Road crossing

Improve pedestrian safety at Warm Springs Road crossing
The Issue
Every day, families and our community in Kenwood face real anxiety when crossing Warm Springs Road near Kenwood Plaza Park, wondering if the next car will see them and stop. Kenwood Plaza Park is a beloved gathering place for our community, children, families, seniors, dogs, and cyclists. Yet Warm Springs Road cuts directly through this area, forcing pedestrians to cross a busy roadway where vehicles frequently travel at unsafe speeds.
The existing crosswalk is poorly located and inadequately marked. It currently leads pedestrians into an area without sidewalks or a shoulder, placing them dangerously close to moving traffic. Cars and trucks regularly fail to yield, creating an ongoing and serious safety hazard. Members of our community have witnessed numerous near misses involving children on bikes, people with dogs, seniors, and cyclists.
This situation is unacceptable. A park and its access points should be safe, welcoming, and designed with pedestrians in mind. Instead, this crossing puts our most vulnerable residents at risk every single day.
We are urging local authorities to take immediate action by relocating the crosswalk to a safer and more appropriate location near Los Guilicos Road and the park entrance, installing highly visible road markings and signage, adding pedestrian activated crossing signals, and ensuring proper sidewalk connectivity on both sides of the road. These improvements are practical, achievable, and essential to preventing serious injury or loss of life.
Kenwood Plaza Park is a vital community space that connects neighbors to recreation, nature, and one another. No one should have to choose between enjoying their local park and feeling safe while doing so.
We respectfully ask Sonoma County and local transportation officials to prioritize the redesign and implementation of safety measures at the Warm Springs Road and Los Guilicos Road crossing. By acting now, you can protect our community and ensure that everyone can access our parks without fear.
Please sign this petition to help make Kenwood safer for children, families, and all who call this community home.
