Improve pedestrian safety at the junction of Mt Lucas and Terhune

The Issue

Living just four doors down from the intersection of Witherspoon Street and Terhune Road in Princeton, NJ, I witness the pressing need for improved pedestrian safety every day. As a parent of three young children, I walk this route twice daily to take them to school and back. I have personally witnessed two accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles in the six months since moving to the neighborhood.

This busy junction is a hotspot for frequent accidents, raising concerns about the safety of pedestrians who face continuous danger while crossing. Families, students, and residents all traverse this path regularly, and it is unjust that they are exposed to such risks while simply getting to school and work.

To reduce these accidents and protect pedestrian lives, it is imperative that we consider implementing measures such as improved signage, brighter lighting, pedestrian crossing signals, and speed bumps to calm traffic in the area. These changes can significantly decrease the likelihood of accidents, creating a safer environment for everyone, especially the children and elderly who may have difficulty navigating busy streets.

We urge the Township Council of Princeton to prioritize this issue and allocate necessary funding for these safety improvements at the Witherspoon and Terhune Junction. Investing in these life-saving measures will show our commitment to fostering a safe community for all.

Join me in advocating for these essential updates to our neighborhood's infrastructure. Your support can drive the change needed to protect our families and friends from further harm. Please sign this petition to help make Witherspoon and Terhune safer for everyone.
