Petition to Improve Pedestrian Safety and Accessible Public Transportation at the Intersection of Twin Oaks Drive and Munich Court

Subject: Request to Create a Pedestrian Crossing, Improve Public Transit Accessibility, or Reroute Traffic to Enhance Safety

We, the undersigned, are deeply saddened by the tragic motor vehicle collision that occurred on January 21, 2025, at the intersection of Twin Oaks Drive and Munich Court, resulting in the loss of a 47-year-old pedestrian.
This devastating incident underscores the urgent need to improve pedestrian safety and access to reliable, safe public transportation in this area. Twin Oaks Drive, as a busy and potentially hazardous thoroughfare, presents significant risks to pedestrians, particularly in the absence of essential infrastructure.

We respectfully request the following actions:

1. Installation of a Pedestrian Crossing:
   Implement a clearly marked and signalized pedestrian crosswalk at or near the intersection of Twin Oaks Drive and Munich Court.
   Include appropriate signage, flashing lights, or traffic signals to alert drivers to pedestrian activity.
2. Accessible Public Transportation Improvements:
   Ensure bus stops and public transit routes in the area are accessible and safe for pedestrians.
   Evaluate the possibility of rerouting bus routes closer to residential areas to reduce the need for pedestrians to cross high-traffic streets like Twin Oaks Drive.
3. Traffic Rerouting Consideration:
   Assess the feasibility of rerouting heavy or high-speed vehicle traffic away from this intersection to alternative routes that prioritize pedestrian safety.
4. Traffic Calming Measures:
   Introduce speed reduction strategies, such as speed bumps, radar speed feedback signs, or reduced speed limits, near the intersection to ensure vehicles approach with caution.
5. Pedestrian and Transit Safety Campaigns:
   Launch educational initiatives that raise awareness about pedestrian safety and promote the use of public transportation as a safe and sustainable alternative.
