The Issue

In Cagayan de Oro, pedestrians are often overlooked in urban planning. Narrow sidewalks, or their complete absence, force people to walk on roads, risking their safety daily. This lack of proper pedestrian infrastructure discourages walking, increases reliance on vehicles, worsens traffic congestion, and heightens pollution.

Here are our demands to the local government:

  • 🚶 Improved Pedestrian Infrastructure – Build and maintain wider, safer, and more accessible sidewalks.
  • 🚦 Enhanced Road Safety Measures – Install clear pedestrian lanes, traffic signals, and road signs to reduce accidents.
  • ♿ Inclusive Accessibility – Ensure walkways accommodate individuals with disabilities, senior citizens, and other vulnerable groups.
  • 🌱 Sustainable Urban Mobility – Promote walkability to ease traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and encourage a healthier community.
  • 🤝 Government & Community Dialogue – Incorporate community stakeholders, especially pedestrians, when planning new projects or renovating existing infrastructure.
  • 📢 Public Awareness Initiatives – Educate residents on pedestrian safety and involve them in advocating for better infrastructure.
  • 📍 Initial Focus Areas: Side streets near Divisoria and City Hall – critical locations where foot traffic is high but sidewalks remain inadequate.

We believe that every citizen deserves a safe, accessible, and walkable city. Our streets should prioritize people, not just cars.
