As a dedicated Uber/Lyft driver in New Jersey, I find myself caught in a distressing situation. Forced to work over 60 hours a week just to make ends meet, we experience meager earnings of just $20 to drive into the busy amongst hustle and bustle of New York City. Sometimes these journeys take over an hour due to dense traffic, and still, we're only compensated with that low amount. Yet, the rules refuse us the right to pick up passengers from NYC, while drivers from other states enjoy the privilege of picking up rides here in New Jersey.

Furthermore, the return trip is often an empty, fruitless drive, and depending on the journey, we're charged a toll fee of $17 to get back to work. This simply isn't fair. We demand equal opportunity for interstate ride pickups to boost our income. Additionally, Uber and Lyft often take over 50% of the fares, making our job even more financially challenging. Uber/Lyft Doesn’t Provide a vehicle to work in we use our own Vehicles in which at times these fairs don’t pay enough to even cover our maintenance and or gas spent. 

The situation undoubtedly requires immediate attention and necessary action. We find it essential to raise the pay for Uber and Lyft drivers across New Jersey, permit interstate ride pickups, and also provide paid sick leave and benefits to the hardworking drivers. The drivers deserve a fair wage that reflects their time, effort, and the overall costs they have to bear.
