Improve Malta's Road Infrastructure

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, environmental advocates, business owners, and concerned citizens of Malta, hereby express our strong opposition to the current plans for road expansion and development across the island. While we acknowledge the importance of improving transportation infrastructure, we believe that the proposed projects prioritize motor vehicle traffic at the expense of Malta’s environment, heritage, and quality of life.

Malta faces increasing traffic congestion, air pollution, and environmental degradation, which threaten public health and the island’s natural beauty. We urge the government to reconsider plans that involve widening roads and constructing new highways through ecologically sensitive areas and historical sites. Instead, we advocate for a focus on sustainable alternatives such as enhancing public transportation, investing in cycling and walking infrastructure, and implementing urban planning strategies that reduce reliance on private vehicles.

We call upon the government to:

Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments before approving any new road projects.
Invest in a modern, reliable, and extensive public transportation network to reduce traffic congestion.
Promote policies that encourage active transportation modes, such as cycling and walking.
Protect Malta’s natural landscapes, green spaces, and cultural heritage from unnecessary development.
Engage local communities and stakeholders in urban planning decisions to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth.
By signing this petition, we stand united in our commitment to preserving Malta’s environment, heritage, and livability for current and future generations. We urge the government to prioritize sustainable development that benefits all residents and safeguards the unique character of our beloved island.

Together, let’s make Malta a greener, safer, and more sustainable place to live.
