I am a parent of active children in Kingsbridge, The Bronx, NY. My children love to play and explore outdoors. When they are out of school and on weekends, we often visit our local playground to release energy in a safe and playful way. However, our current facilities in the Bailey Playground do not meet the diverse needs of all age groups in our community.

The importance of outdoor play for children cannot be understated. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), playing outside is crucial for children's physical health as well as their cognitive and emotional development. Yet, many playgrounds are designed primarily for younger kids leaving older kids with limited options. Aside from that, many playgrounds are outdated and provide limitations to a child’s play. 

Our community deserves a better playground that caters to all ages - from toddlers learning to walk to teenagers seeking an outlet for their energy or elderly residents looking for low-impact exercise options.

This petition calls upon the Kingsbridge Community Council and Parks Department to invest in improving our local playground by incorporating equipment suitable for all age groups. This could include adding more swings, climbing structures suitable for older children, fitness stations targeting adults or seniors among other improvements.
