WHO IS IMPACTED:  HERNDON MIDDLE STUDENTS ARE 60% economically disadvantaged and the academic gaps are widening compared to the nearest 4 other middle schools.  

WHAT IS AT STAKE:  As the capacity utilization continues to decrease, HMS is still not on the 5 year capital improvement plan ("CIP").  Its a self fulfilling cycle.

Our students, teachers, parents and community deserve more than this!  Its time for FCPS to invest more into HMS and its facilities and fields!

LET IT BE KNOWN THAT:

• Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has a capital improvement plan (CIP) approved by the FCPS School Board for the NEXT 5 YEARS through FY 2029 
• Herndon Middle School is NOT LISTED ON THIS PLAN AT ALL!!!!  over the last 10 years HMS has received only $2.5 million in renovations while Cooper Middle and Hughes Middle have received over $50MM each!
• 3 other FCPS middles schools have received/planned to receive an additional COMBINED over $235 MILLION DOLLARS
• ALL IN -- A TOTAL OF OVER $335 MILLION FUNDED OR PLANNED FOR FCPS MIDDLE SCHOOLS in recent years.

WHY NOW?

FCPS puts together its 5 year plan and we need our school to be on that list - we need HMS and its students and teachers/admins to receive the attention it deserves.  WE WANT A REVISION TO THE SCHOOL BOARD CIP LIST and additional funding provided for a new SPORTS FIELD renovation in the meantime while we wait on this full renovation queue.

DECIDE NOW FCPS:  TO RENOVATE, REDISTRICT AND/OR REBUILD HERNDON MIDDLE & its SPORTS FIELDS

--> This petition shall be delivered to the following showing the diverse representation of the Herndon community asking just ONE THING:  include our school on the CIP LIST and improve our sports fields!
