Hello everyone,
I hope everybody is doing well as we transition back to school for the 23-24 year. I would just like to share an update for everyone regarding this issue. Now that school is in session, I can also give updates on the condition of the school. As of today, I didn't notice any tar smells, but like last year, construction workers are actively working during and in between classes, which might pose safety risks.
I would like to thank news reporter Megan Clarke for covering a story for Poolesville construction safety concerns on WJLA, along with the parents who were interviewed. Here are the links to the article & video and Facebook post. Please like and share the Facebook post and share any comments regarding your or your child's experiences, as she is interested in hearing community feedback.
From what I've heard, it seems that MCPS may be more likely to take action if students and parents who are local residents of Poolesville reach out. MCPS has not committed to stopping all hazardous construction activity during school hours (just the tarring); fireproofing spraying has been scheduled to take place this week and the chemicals in the aerosol are carcinogenic.
Once again, thank you so much for all the support and please keep sharing the petition and news story so we can spread awareness on this issue.
