Improve C109 roundabout infrastructure in Werribee
The issue
The recent upgrade to the C109 roundabout in Werribee has become a nightmare for the local community. Instead of solving our traffic problems, it's exacerbated them. The freeway exit now results in traffic queues extending more than 2 kilometres down the service lane, creating a congestion hazard that threatens the safety of our families on a 100 speed zone. The experience is reminiscent of the Point Cook exit fiasco that took decades to resolve. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.
The current 'solution' is nothing more than a temporary fix—a band-aid over a serious wound. What our community needs is a comprehensive and sustainable infrastructure plan that addresses the genuine needs of the area. We demand safe and efficient roadways that facilitate smooth traffic flow and safeguard the wellbeing of all residents. The days of having single lane road is chaotic and leads to aggressive and unsafe driving.
Statistics show that traffic congestion is not only an inconvenience, but also a significant public safety issue. According to data from Victorian road safety authorities, service lanes and congested freeway exits are high-risk accident zones, especially at busy interchanges like the C109 roundabout. We cannot sit idle and let these risks escalate any further.
Here are our proposed solutions:
1. Commission an independent traffic study to assess current congestion patterns and predict future traffic flows in Werribee, considering the planned developments and rapid Estates being approved in the region. We need a double lane road all over Wyndham city.
2. Redesign the C109 traffic lights to accommodate increasing traffic volumes, ensuring that both local and freeway traffic are managed efficiently.
3. Implement additional safety measures such as improved lighting, clearer signage, and enhanced pedestrian pathways to protect all road users.
4. Involve the local community in the planning process to ensure the solutions meet the actual needs of those who use these roads daily.
