Improve and Upgrade Belmont Pump Track and Skatepark Facilities
The Issue
My family and I are among many residents of County Durham who have to travel out of the city to find suitable public spaces for recreational activities. Our local Belmont pump track and skatepark, located right here in our neighborhood, no longer serve our needs due to their current state. Year after year, we watch these spaces fall into disrepair, with many items becoming potentially unsafe for use. This neglect has left a stark cultural and recreational void in our city, one that disproportionately affects the young people in our community.
On a personal level, the lack of local facilities negatively impacts the quality of life for residents, particularly our children, who have nowhere close to home where they can safely cycle, skate, or simply hang out. Our city is part of the County of Durham which, according to the 2011 census, houses around 48,069 young people aged between 5 and 19 years old. This significant population of young residents deserves dedicated, safe, and well-maintained recreational facilities.
We are therefore calling on the local authorities to regenerate and improve the facilities at Belmont pump track and skatepark. We believe that these improvements will not only provide a much-needed space for our youth but also contribute to the sense of community, physical health, and overall quality of life for all residents of County Durham.
Help us convince the local government to make this vital contribution to our community's welfare and future. Join us by signing this petition and let us together bring about the change we want to see in County Durham.
