Improve Accessibility for Disabled Customers of AusPost and StarTrack
The issue
My experience:
I’m Chloe, I live in WA with multiple disabilities and following my own distressing experience I have reached out to local communities who shared the same challenges. This ranged from being ignored by couriers, as well as being bullied, gaslight and given unsolicited systemically harmful advice by telephone operators. In my own case I verbalised my human rights under the discrimination act politely and requested to make a formal inquiry to be hung up on. We are louder in numbers.
The petition details:
AusPost and StarTrack, two of Australia's leading postal services, have a responsibility to provide accessible services to all their customers. However, many disabled customers report facing significant challenges when trying to access these services. This includes physical barriers at post offices and delivery centers, as well as digital barriers on websites and apps. According to the Australian Network on Disability, one in five Australians has a disability. This means that potentially millions of people are being disadvantaged by the current state of accessibility at AusPost and StarTrack. We call upon these companies to take immediate action in improving their facilities, digital platforms, and staff training programs to ensure they are fully accessible for all customers regardless of their abilities or disabilities. Please sign this petition if you believe that everyone deserves equal access to essential postal services.
Concerns voiced:
- STOP knocking on doors if doorbell bell provided & RING it
- Actually ATTEMPT the delivery
- Give ACCESSIBLE TIME for people with disabilities to answer to the door
- Actually leave a note with ACCESSIBLE instructions
- Show customers RESPECT and PATIENCE
- Actually use the GATE CODES they provide to you
- Do not OBSTRUCT front door with parcels
- Provide RE-DELIVERY services to disabled disorders if missed
- Keep held parcels at NEAREST collection location not multiple places/far away
- Provide accessible REDELIVERY request alternatives to phone calls
- Provide accessible phone APP
- EDUCATE staff, especially operators in the Disability Discrimination Act
Time and money do not come before accessibility. These companies are only as inclusive as they are success in providing accessibility. Please sign if you support this change and feel free to share any stories to constructively shape the list above.
