Private jets are a significant contributor to carbon emissions, exacerbating the global climate crisis. According to the European Transport & Environment Association, private jets emit 20 times more CO2 per passenger than standard commercial flights. As well, in one hour, a private jet emits 2 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. This is a fourth of an average person’s yearly usage. These are alarming statistics that we cannot ignore as we strive for a sustainable future. We urge our government to either ban private jets or impose significantly higher taxes on their usage. This would not only discourage unnecessary air travel but also generate revenue that could be invested in greener transportation alternatives.
