Implementing Excused Mental Health Days & Family Connect Night

The Issue

We are asking for the implementation of two essential policies to support student well-being

1. Excused Monthly Health Day – At least one excused absence per year for students to prioritize their mental health without penalty. Just as sick days are necessary for physical recovery, students need time to reset and care for their mental well-being.

 2. Family Connect Night – One designated night per month with no homework, tests, or assignments due the following day. This will allow students to spend uninterrupted time with family, engage in self-care, and recharge without academic stress.

Students face immense academic and social pressures, leading to burnout, anxiety, and stress-related health issues. A mental health day fosters self-care, emotional regulation, and overall academic success. Family Connect Night encourages stronger relationships at home, benefiting students’ emotional and social development. Studies show that balanced schedules improve focus, motivation, and long-term academic performance.

We believe these small but impactful changes will create a healthier, more supportive school environment. We urge you to consider and implement these policies for the well-being of all students.
