Implement Zara's Rule in Emergency Departments and Wards

The issue

This petition is deeply personal. It is named after my 20-month-old daughter, Zara Jayde, who tragically lost her life due to delayed life-saving measures. Despite being in a critical condition for many hours, she was not given the necessary medical attention until it was too late. She suffered two cardiac arrests and ultimately passed away.

Zara's Rule would allow parents or nurses to call for immediate intervention from an ICU or PICU doctor when they deem a patient to be in a life-threatening situation and feel their concerns are not being heard. This rule could prevent tragedies like Zara's from happening again.

If implemented effectively, Zara's Rule could significantly reduce the number of preventable deaths by ensuring immediate attention for patients deemed at risk.

Zaras rule is in addition to Ryan's rule we are not wanting to replace Ryan's rule. I am just trying to grow on it, for families who believe their child is in a life or death suitation like zara was.

From when Ryan's rule was called to when ICU was finally involved was 1.5hrs. That is just to long for a child who was Blue, swollen and couldn't breathe.

We urge healthcare institutions across Australia to implement this crucial rule as part of their emergency protocols. Please sign this petition and help us make hospitals safer places for all patients - no family should have to experience what we did with our beloved Zara Jayde.
