Implement Traffic Safety Measures on Qu'appelle Dr./Highway 641

Implement Traffic Safety Measures on Qu'appelle Dr./Highway 641
The Issue
I am a resident of Lumsden, SK, near Qu'appelle Drive/Highway 641 on which reckless, speeding drivers pose a constant danger. As a parent of two children under age 4, I live in terror that they might be the next victims of these speeders. Already, I have lost two cats to speeding vehicles and my neighbor has experienced similar tragedies. Despite being situated near what appears to be a rural area, our stretch of road is actually part of a 40 km/h residential area. Still, a private speed indicator, some three houses away, frequently detects speeds over twice the legal limit.
Our homes lack the basic protection of sidewalks, an unsatisfactory situation in a residential area frequented by young families. This is why we urgently seek authorities to take decisive measures, such as speed humps and vigilant enforcement of speed limits, to restore safety to our neighborhood. We must act before a life is lost and it's no longer a matter of pets but of people, specifically our young ones.
We request the municipal authorities and traffic control bodies in Lumsden, SK, Canada, to immediately take action and make our roads safer for all its users - pedestrians, children, and drivers alike. By imposing stricter law enforcement, adding speed limit reminders, and implementing traffic calming measures on Qu'appelle Dr./Highway 641, we can prevent speeding offenses and provide a safer environment for our children and all residents.
When addressing a vehicle traveling at 89 km/h that swiftly passed through my neighborhood and near the mayor's residence, the mayor acknowledged a longstanding issue spanning over 35 years. The question arises: must we wait another 35 years or endure a tragedy before the council takes decisive action? The taxpayers and residents of Lumsden deserve a stronger voice in this matter compared to ranchers hauling cattle trailers, particularly as some of these drivers contribute to the speeding issue."
We urge you to realize this need for change and implement it. Act now, save lives. Please sign this petition to support these vital changes.
