Implement Traffic Safety Measures at Trinity Basin Prep - South Campus, Fort Worth

The Issue

Every day, as a parent, I send my son off to school at Trinity Basin Prep - South Campus, heart pounding with anxiety. In the same school, my friends' children are educated. We all share the same dread – the uncontrolled traffic near our children's school. It is an accident waiting to happen. Trinity Basin Prep on Crowley Road in Fort Worth, TX does not have sufficient traffic management measures or school zone signage, increasing the danger to our kids daily.

In Fort Worth, reports indicate more accidents occur in the absence of traffic signals than in their presence (Source: Fort Worth PD). The potential risk of an accident happening near our school is real. It is imperative to address this safety hazard before any members of our school community – children, parents, or staff – are involved in a dangerous incident.

We urge the City of Fort Worth and Fort Worth PD to step in and protect our children. We request traffic control measures, such as police officers directing traffic, and visible school zone signs near Trinity Basin Prep - South Campus. Every child deserves the right to a safe journey to and from their place of learning.

Let us value our children's lives over convenience. Please act before it is too late. Sign this petition and join our appeal for implementing traffic safety measures.

Thank you for contacting councilman Nettles. We have been made aware of the concern for traffic signage and flashers to be installed at Trinity Basin Preparatory. Trinity Basin Preparatory is currently in the process of an expansion. The school zone would need to be implemented by the school as a part of their expansion. The City’s Development Services Department has been in communication with the school’s engineer regarding the expansion. The City is also engaging with TxDOT for school zone requirements along Crowley Rd. TxDOT ultimately will determine if the school zone would be allowed as an exception, as it does not meet the standard criteria required for school zone implementation. If they will allow the school zone to be implemented, we are asking if they will allow for the regular school flashers to be installed now as an interim resolution in lieu of an overhead flasher, which is the overall flasher recommendation. We will provide additional feedback once an update has been received from TxDOT on this matter. In the meantime I will advise councilman Nettles of your meeting request and get right back to you. Thank you all so much for your patience throughout this process. Kind Regards, Chelsie Anthony District Director – District 8 Councilmember Chris Nettles chelsie.anthony@fortworthtexas.gov
